There are cases like Verizon’s Jelly Bean update on Galaxy S3/Note 2, Sprint’s Jelly Bean update on Galaxy S3/Note 2, or T-Mobile’s Jelly Bean on Galaxy S2, where tethering is blocked completely.įor Verizon or Sprint, your tethering application will just not work and for T-Mobile, you will be re-directed to a T-mobile wifi tether website where it asks you to pay for it. Luckily, there are ways to circumvent wifi tether block on most Android smartphones or tablets (that support SIM cards) by installing tether apps like FoxFi (which works on most Motorola/Verizon phones without root) or Wifi Tether app for Rooted users (which works on most rooted Android smartphones). In countries like South Korea, Thailand, and the rest of the world, there’s no extra tethering monthly charges to use the wifi tethering feature.

is the ONLY country in the world where carriers charge you twice for the same internet you already paid for. carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon, will charge you an extra “tethering monthly fee” (around $20-30) if you want wifi tethering enabled on your phone so you can share your phone’s internet with other wifi devices you own such as Android tablets, desktop computer, etc…etc… Although I guess you do get the advantage of choice between Android keyboards, and also not having screen space on the PB taken up by the keyboard. Most U.S. The app mentioned above "blueputdroid" for using a phone as keyboard/mouse only works for certain devices (not including mine, unfortunately), but you can always try it, although unless you have a phone with a physical keyboard, I'm not really sure a phone keyboard would be better than the PB one. If it isn't an option in your ROM, install FoxFi, as recommended above). (Note that these apps won't work on all phones, but they claim they should work on most if they don't WiFi hotspot should still work. Something perhaps of note though: it mentions having been tested with the PB in the app description.

Another alternative is "BlueDUN", but it costs money and I don't know if there is any actual advantage of it over CobaltBlue.

Once the app was running, it was very straight forward to setup the tethering. Personally I think portable WiFi hotspot is easier (although only because it's integrated into the manufacturer customized Android ROM on my phone), but CobaltBlue seems like a good alternative if one is needed. The app advised above "ColbaltBlue3" seems to work well for allowing tethering via bluetooth if that's what you want.
